1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They're used to make sites work, remember choices you've made, or understand how a site is used. Some cookies are set directly by the site you're visiting ("first-party"); others are set by outside services embedded in the page, like a map ("third-party").
2. The categories we use
When you first visit doukashotels.com, you'll see a banner letting you choose between three categories. Nothing outside "Necessary" loads until you say yes — nothing is pre-ticked or assumed.
| Category | Default | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Always on | Required for the site to function. We don't currently set any cookies in this category — it exists for if/when that changes (e.g. a future login or cart feature). |
| Functional | Off until accepted | Loads the interactive Google Maps embed in our Location section. Until accepted, you'll see a placeholder with a link to open the map preferences instead. |
| Analytics | Off until accepted | Would load Google Analytics, to help us understand how the site is used. Not currently active — we don't yet use Google Analytics, but plan to, and wanted the consent mechanism ready ahead of that rather than added later as an afterthought. |
3. Cookies in detail
Because Functional and Analytics cookies are set by Google's own services rather than by us directly, we don't control their exact names or lifespans — those are Google's to define and can change on their end. What we can tell you:
- Google Maps (Functional) sets cookies in your browser once loaded, used by Google for the map's own function and, per Google's policies, potentially for other purposes described in their own documentation. See Google's Cookie Policy for specifics.
- Google Analytics (Analytics), once active, typically sets cookies such as
_gaand_ga_<container-id>, used to distinguish visitors and sessions. These are standard, publicly documented Google Analytics cookies — see Google's Cookie Policy for current detail.
We don't use advertising or marketing cookies, and we don't use any cookies from services other than Google's, described above.
4. Managing your preferences
You can change your cookie choices at any time — click "Cookie Settings" in the footer of any page to reopen the preference panel and adjust Functional and Analytics independently, or reject everything non-essential in one click.
5. Browser-level controls
Separately from our own preference panel, most browsers let you block or delete cookies directly in their settings. Doing so may affect how well this or any other website works — for example, blocking all cookies would also prevent your consent choice itself from being remembered, so you'd see the banner again on your next visit.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our use of cookies changes — for example, once Google Analytics is actually switched on. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it was last revised.
